paint, ink and color pencil on paper
after the poem "Llueve" (And It Rains) by the Colombian
poet Matilde Espinosa.
the series is comprised of six drawings and a video piece.
text
translation from Spanish to English
by Kristin Dykstra.
rich with references to nature, time, life cycles, seasons and
memories, the written language of poetry and the visual language
of painting, drawing and video establish a dialogue where
the landscape of experience emerges as the recurrent theme.
working on the series, i focused on rain fall, its accumulation and
its ability to transform and shape the land as representative of life
events and how they leave an imprint, change us and move us
through time and space.
aesthetically, the drawings and the video aspire to capture the
translucent, fluid and ephemeral quality of water but also its ability
to sculpt and contribute to the topography - always leaving its mark
regardless of the storm or pleasant drizzle that precipitated its fall.
